MARYLAND CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION SCHEDULE

View the dates directly on the MDE web site at EXAMINATION SCHEDULE_2008 (Opens in a new browser window.)

EXAMINATION CANCELLATION DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER: A scheduled examination will not be given if weather conditions cause the State government to adopt a liberal leave policy on that date. Those who were scheduled to take an examination that is cancelled will be given the opportunity to take a future examination on the date of their choice (on a space available basis). A new application for the examination will not be required. Due to limited seating, applications are being accepted on a first come/first serve basis. Should you have any questions, please call 410-537-3167. If you cannot make your scheduled examination date, you must notify the Board of Certification at your earliest convenience. You may only reschedule a missed exam once. Please do not fax your examination application. The $75 fee must accompany the application. Per COMAR 26.06.01.07, all fees are non-refundable.

All applications must be received before the deadline. No exceptions.

Maryland Certification Publications

NOW AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD FROM THE WEB!

The WWOA, together with the Maryland Center for Environmental Training (MCET) and the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), has created two publications designed to help the Maryland environmental systems operator understand the Maryland Operator / Superintendent Certification system, and aid the potential examinee to prepare to take any of the Operator Certification Examinations.

"A Guide to Maryland Certification for Water and Wastewater Operators and Superintendents" will explain the State certification requirements as well as the certificate renewal requirements. Who needs to be certified, and in which classification, including a step-by-step sequence chart that details the operator and superintendent certification process, is a featured element.

"A Handbook for Maryland Certification Examinations - Preparing for and Taking the Water and Wastewater Operator Examinations" will help prepare you for the exam and explains the actual process of taking the exam. It identifies the topics on each classification exam and makes important suggestions about test-taking strategies.

In addition to downloadable versions on the web, paper copies of both of these publications are distributed at no charge by WWOA, MCET and MDE. The following contacts can supply you with either publication:

WWOA - Winfield McKell, Public Relations Committee Chair (301-206-7550)
MCET - Karen Brandt, Director (301-934-7500); or email at info@mcet.org
MDE - Lee Haskins, Board Administrator (800) 633-6101 x3167 or e-mail at pkratochvil@mde.state.md.us

Maryland Approved Training List

Maryland Certificate renewal conditions require the holder to take training that has been reviewed by the Training Review and Evaluation (TRE) Committee and approved by the Board as appropriate for the classification of Certificate being renewed. Only training that meets this criteria can be used to satisfy this renewal requirement.

To obtain a copy of this Maryland State Approved Training List (sometimes called the "TRE List") from the Board's Administrative Office, any of the following four methods may be used:

1.  View the list directly on the MDE web site at http://www.mde.state.md.us/envboards/search.asp (Opens in a new browser window.)

2.  Call them at (800) 633-6101 ext 3167 to request that a printed copy be mailed to you. There is a copying fee, determined by the Board, for this service. Be sure to ask what the current fee will be.

3.  Send them a formatted 3.5 inch floppy disk and a copy of the list will be returned to you on the disk. This service is free. Send the diskette to:

Maryland Department of the Environment
Water Management Adminstration
Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators
1800 Washington Blvd.
Baltimore, MD 21230

4.  E-mail them (pkratochvil@mde.state.md.us) with a request to send you a copy of the list via e-mail. This service is free.
